Gordon Highlander, around 1890
"To the make of a piper go seven years of his own learning, and seven generations before.
At the end of his seven years, one born to it will stand at the start of knowledge,
and leaning a fond ear to the drone he may have parley with old folks of old affairs"
Neil Monroe
Welcome to my site.
And PLEASE FORGIVE ME! I have been made aware, that more people have written to me due to this site, some asking questions. I have not been aware of this, and I beg your forgiveness. My only excuse is, that the mails have been sent to a mailadres I dont frequently use, and therefore ended up unread. 'Till now that is! I will do what ever I can in the future to rectify this, and I do primise it will not happen again :-)
This page is made over my interest in the Great Highland Bagpipe, bagpipe music and the entire culture around this magnificent instrument. As I am a beginner into playing the pipes myself, the more experienced piper might find little of interest here. I do however encourage you to read on, and leave any feedback you might find relevant. In that way you will be adding to the sources of knowledge and inspiration for me and for anyone else reading these pages. The beginner, or less experienced piper, might easier find something usefull here, as it is often the same problems and questions one has to deal with.
As a beginner, obviously my plan is not for this site to be a bagpipe encyclopedia, or to provide the visitor with a comprehensive insight in the bagpipe world. There are plenty of very good internet pages doing that already, and besides I am not close to being competent to do that job. But perhaps other pipers, beginners as my self or otherwise, may find something of interest. And if not..... Well, I have fun maintaining it :O)
Besides, I do have two very basic things in common with even the best pipers in the world: Once in their learning they were at the stage where I am now, and we share the same passionate interest for the bagpipe. It is that specific interest I am going to write about here.
In it's present form, this page was launched on july 28th 2005. I will do my very best to update, expand and maintain it with the speed my life permits me.
Finally, any comments, positive as negative, are more than velcome. So are any questions which I will do my very best to answer. I will however ask, that any questions or other longer inputs are sent by mail, rather than posted in the guestbook.
So welcome once again. I hope you will find your visit an interesting one.
Hamish, july 2005.
PS. I might add, that this version of the site will be a bit behind the danish version, so please come back every now and then to check for updates.
